Merced’s Field of Honor® — A Tribute to Service, Sacrifice & America

For the 14th consecutive year, the Merced Sunrise Rotary Club proudly presents its Veterans Day Field of Honor®, creating a breathtaking sea of American flags in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley.

Each flag stands as a personal tribute to the men and women who have served our nation, with a special focus this year on honoring those who served during the Vietnam era. First responders may also be honored, recognizing the many individuals who have answered the call to serve and protect their communities.

This year’s Field of Honor® carries an especially meaningful message as our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. At the center of the display will be a beautifully digitally remastered 4′ x 6′ reproduction of the Declaration of Independence—a powerful reminder of the ideals upon which our nation was founded and the generations of Americans who have served to preserve them.

The Declaration has quickly become a special part of the Field of Honor® experience. Visitors are encouraged to pause, read, reflect and even capture a photograph with this remarkable piece of American history. It offers families an opportunity to connect the words written 250 years ago with the people and freedoms we honor today.

The Field of Honor® also provides a quiet moment to remember the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001—those who lost their lives, the first responders and ordinary Americans who answered the call, and the enduring spirit of service that followed. While Veterans Day remains at the heart of this display, the Field of Honor® reminds us that service takes many forms, and sacrifice has shaped our nation throughout its history.

The Field of Honor® is, at its heart, a simple way of saying “Thank you.” Each flag represents someone whose service, sacrifice or dedication has earned our gratitude. Together, the flags create more than a beautiful display—they create a place for our community to pause, remember, reflect and celebrate the country we share.

Merced’s Field of Honor® is a gift to the community, made possible through the dedication of Merced Sunrise Rotarians, volunteers, local businesses and individual flag sponsors. Community members are invited to sponsor a flag in honor or memory of someone who has earned our thanks.

We invite you to bring your family, friends and associates and walk among the ordered rows and columns of American flags. Stand beside the Declaration of Independence. Find the name of someone you know. Take a moment to remember. Take a photograph. And experience for yourself the remarkable sight of hundreds of American flags flying together in honor of those who have served.

There is no cost to visit the Merced Field of Honor®, and everyone is welcome.

Come walk the Field. Read the names. Remember the sacrifice. Celebrate America.
