A New Santa Maria Veterans Day Tradition

Over Veterans Day, the Rotary Club of Santa Maria will proudly host the inaugural Santa Maria Field of Honor® November 11-15th.  125 United States flags will fly across a Santa Maria field, creating a powerful display of American pride and remembrance. Alongside the flags, visitors will encounter a special Military Branch Suite, honoring the six branches of the United States Armed Forces: the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force.

Members of the community are invited to dedicate a flag in honor of their hero.

A tribute to service.

A tribute to sacrifice.

And a tribute to the men and women—military and civilian—who have stepped forward when their country and their communities needed them most.

A Sacred Year of Remembrance

Veterans Day carries special meaning in any year. In 2026, its significance is even greater.

Just one day before Veterans Day, on November 10, the United States Marine Corps will celebrate its birthday. Across 2026, America is also recognizing the anniversaries of its military services, including the Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force. The display of all six branches provides an opportunity to recognize the remarkable evolution of America’s military—from the forces that fought for independence to today’s service members protecting the nation on land, at sea, in the air and in space.

But this year also asks us to remember something much more solemn.

A Field of Flags. A Field of Gratitude.

The 125 flags flying over Santa Maria will represent 125 reminders that the American flag is never merely fabric.

Behind it are names.

Families.

Battles.

Fire stations.

Police stations.

Ships.

Airfields.

Homes left behind.

Lives changed forever.

And sacrifices that can never truly be repaid.

Visitors are invited to walk among the flags, explore the Military Branch Suite, learn about the traditions and histories of America’s armed services, and reflect on the extraordinary men and women who have served our country.

Most importantly, this inaugural event invites Santa Maria to say thank you.

Thank you to America’s veterans.

Thank you to those currently serving.

Thank you to military families.

Thank you to firefighters, police officers, paramedics, dispatchers and other first responders.

And thank you to the generations who stood in harm’s way so that generations who followed could stand in freedom.

125 American flags.
Six branches of the Armed Forces.
One community.
One grateful nation.

And one simple promise:

We remember.
We honor.
We give thanks.

This Veterans Day, Santa Maria begins a new tradition—one rooted in service, strengthened by remembrance, and dedicated to the men and women who have given so much for all of us.

This display is a gift to the community.  The event is free to the public.  All are invited.
