In the days leading up to Memorial Day, Taos County’s 22nd Annual Veterans Healing Field® will once again transform the pastureland of the Claudio Rael family in Questa into a powerful sea of red, white, and blue. Each flag stands in honor of Active-Duty Military, Fallen Servicemen and Women, Hometown Heroes, Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans—especially those who gave their lives defending our nation and our way of life.
This year carries added meaning as we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary and mark the 25th anniversary of September 11th—moments that call us to reflect on our shared history, our resilience, and the unity that carries us forward.
Behind every flag is a story—of courage, sacrifice, and love of country. These stories remind us, and teach future generations, that the freedoms we enjoy have been earned through the service and sacrifice of others. Many paid the ultimate price, and their absence is felt not only by their families and friends, but by all of us who share in their loss.
Walking among the rows of flags is a moving experience that words can hardly capture. It is something you feel as much as you see—an unforgettable tribute that stays with you long after you leave.
The Healing Field ® is free to visit, and all are invited to walk quietly among the flags, reflect, and remember.
This meaningful display is a gift to the community, made possible by generous donations, sponsorships, and the dedication of volunteers.
