Recognizing heroes is a Greenville tradition that goes back to the city’s naming in 1786.  General Nathaniel Greene emerged from the American Revolution as the hero of the Carolinas, Georgia and Virginia, and when he died in 1786, Greenville was named in his honor.

For the 13th straight year, the Merced Sunrise Rotary Club hosts their Veteran's Day Field of Honor® flag display.  As in each previous year, the flags will honor military and veterans with focus on those who served in Vietnam.
