This Memorial Day the Knights of Columbus will host a Field of Honor® display of U.S. flags on the grassy field in front of the St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Ijamsville. This inspirational posting of the Stars and Stripes will feature four hundred flags standing in a solemn formation as a tribute to our past and present American Heroes. Individual flags will honor our active duty military as well as those who have sacrificed their lives to defend our freedoms. Flags will also honor the first responders who serve our communities. Flags may be sponsored for $40, and the sponsors will retain the flags at the close of the event to be displayed in Ijamsville and surrounding communities as continuing mementos of service.
The funds raised through the Field of Honor® flag display will benefit Building Veterans, “a supportive community that finds, welcomes, mentors and equips veterans and others who are broken in body, mind and spirit, and integrates them back into the larger community rebuilt and restored to live and serve.”
The panorama of red, white and blue is hard to adequately describe, but once experienced it is not to be forgotten. There will be no charge to visit the Ijamsville Field of Honor® display, and all are invited to walk with us through the ordered rows of flags. This is an event not to be missed.
