November 10 – 16, 2019
Keller City Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Road, Keller, TX 76248
One thousand seven hundred and seventy six (1776) U.S. flags, purchased by those who wish to honor their hero, will be flown in a North Texas Field of Honor® paying tribute to veterans, active and reserve duty military and first responders during Veteran’s Day week, November 10 – 16, 2019. The full-size flags will have a yellow ribbon with the information of the veteran or first responder in whose honor the flag was purchased. The flag display will be in front of Keller Town Hall. Following the closing ceremonies, flags are either picked up by those who purchased them or mailed to the honored veteran, first responder or purchaser. Net proceeds from the event will benefit veteran, first responder and local Rotary Club charities.
Keller, Texas is not the only suburban community in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, but for a city of 44,000—it does things in a big way. Well, that is after all the Texas way. Those driving along Bear Creek Road in the days surrounding Veterans Day last year, saw an explosion of red, white & blue on the lawns of the Keller Town Hall as 1,400 United States flags flew in Keller’s first Field of Honor® flag display. Now that is an impressive number of flags to see all flying together, but for the Rotary Club of Keller, which is hosting this year’s event, 1,776 flags are even better.
Field of Honor® flags fly to honor the men and women who have and are defending our nation around the world. The number of surviving World War II veterans grows smaller each day, and the decades have multiplied since our military served on the battlefields of Korea and Vietnam. In the years since the terrorist attacks of 2001 our military members have fought in the Middle East. With the fall of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, highlighted the sacrifices of first responders reminding us that they too place themselves in harm’s way to also protect us. All these heroes honored the flag and it is fitting that the display of the flag should honor them. It is time to show our appreciation.
North Texas Field of Honor® flags may be sponsored in tribute to individual veterans who returned or those who did not return. Also, currently serving men & women and first responders may also be honored. Flags are sponsored for $40, and they are received by the sponsors at the end of the event.
The North Texas Field of Honor® is a gift to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex community made possible through donations, sponsorship and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or becoming an event sponsor.
A schedule of programs and ceremonies will be added when available.
