Recognizing heroes is a Greenville tradition that goes back to the city’s naming in 1786.  General Nathaniel Greene emerged from the American Revolution as the hero of the Carolinas, Georgia and Virginia, and when he died in 1786, Greenville was named in his honor.  In years, decades and centuries since countless heroes have created and shaped the city, state and nation.  The Greenville Noon Rotary understands the importance of honoring heroes that their deeds not be forgotten.  What better way to honor our heroes than by displaying the Stars & Stripes wherein their heroism emerges as part of the flag’s meaning.

While our military and veterans come quickly to mind, heroes appear in many forms.  Men and women who defend our nation in far flung battlefields have earned our honor, and they are joined by a long list of heroes including police, firefighters, paramedics, teachers, mentors, and the list continues.

Greenville’s 5th annual Field of Honor® event again brings this inspiring and memorable display of U.S flags to the Coastal Plain and Tidewater hub of the metro area.  Drawing organizers, volunteers and visitors to the display together to recognize, remember and honor our heroes.  The greatness of America is created by the numberless acts of those who become our personal heroes, and it is fitting to honor them with the display of a U.S. flag.

The Greenville Field of Honor® display is a gift to the greater Greenville community made possible by efforts of dedicated volunteers. Please support this worthwhile event by sponsoring flags in tribute to your heroes, by volunteering to help and through contributions.
