From June 29 through July 7, the grounds of the Birchard Library in Fremont will be transformed into sacred space as American flags rise in solemn formation, presented by the National Exchange Club of Fremont. This inaugural event marks the beginning of what will surely become a deeply anticipated annual community tradition — a powerful tribute to remembrance, service, and unity.

As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, and as we reflect on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, this moving display invites all who visit to pause and remember a country tested by tragedy, strengthened by sacrifice, and sustained by generations devoted to liberty.

Set against the early summer sky, each flag stands not merely as fabric and color, but as a living symbol of resilience, courage, and national pride. Together, they honor the lives lost on 9/11, as well as the first responders, military members, and everyday heroes who answered the call in the days and years that followed. Every flag tells a story. Every flag represents sacrifice. Every flag reminds us that freedom endures because of those willing to defend it.

This is more than a display — it is an experience. A place to remember, to reflect, and to renew our shared commitment to the ideals that unite us as a nation.

Community members are invited to participate by sponsoring a flag, dedicating a tribute, or making a donation. For $50, individuals and families can purchase and dedicate an American flag in honor of a loved one, a veteran, a first responder, or a victim of 9/11. Each dedication ensures that a name, a story, and a legacy are honored within this powerful field of remembrance.

Visitors are encouraged to walk among the flags throughout the display period. The exhibit is open to all and free to attend.
