This is the 10^th year that True Patriots Care has hosted impressive Field of Honor® flag displays in Kane County and other collar counties southwest of Chicago.  Whether in West Dundee, Carpentersville, Elgin or other neighboring communities, these flag displays draw residents together with dedicated volunteers from True Patriots Care led by Jerry Christopherson.  Their organization’s name truthfully describes their motivation.  American Legion Post 679 joins with True Patriots care in bringing the Wall that Heals Vietnam Memorial to the Village of West Dundee to the 2019 Field of Honor® display.

Themed “Welcome Home Tribute for Vietnam Veterans,” the West Dundee Field of Honor® flag display of 1,600 United States Flags honors veterans who did not receive due honor and respect when they first returned home form an unpopular war in Southeast Asia.  In the decades since their return, Americans have learned to honor our service men and women who are placed in harm’s way despite the political disagreement that may be argued at home.  We invite all area residents to join in creating and experiencing this amazing display of our nation’s flag.

Now as the veterans of the Vietnam War are ageing, we have the opportunity to let them know that their service and sacrifices are not forgotten.  The Wall that Heals memorial tells the story of human sacrifice and loss in a dramatic way that reminds the mature while teaching the young.  The first Patriots Care Field of Honor® event welcomed Vietnam Veterans home as is this year’s focus, but the Wall that Heals adds a visual dimension that is readily understood and appreciated by Vietnam’s veterans.  The formation of flags and the memorial combine in a visual event that must be experienced to be fully appreciated.
