Event Details
In 2014 the Blackhawk Band performed at Pearl Harbor marking the 75th Anniversary of the attack, which began World War II, and now they are invited to take part in the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landing on the beaches of Normandy, which began the liberation of Europe and led to the end of the war. The Blackhawks Band is one of only ten American high schools invited to take part in ceremonies and programs commemorating the allied invasion. As with the trip to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, travel to Normandy in France takes careful planning to include financing for band members’ travel including shipment of instruments and equipment. This is a huge undertaking, and the Blackhawk Band needs community support.
To raise funds, the North Buncombe High School Band Boosters is hosting their 3rd Field of Honor® event as hundreds of U.S. flags will stand posted in a solemn formation during the last week of June. This dramatic display of the Stars and Stripes presents a stirring tribute to honor veterans. You can show your support by sponsoring a flag and/or making a donation. Flags may be sponsored for $40 with proceeds benefiting the Blackhawk Band’s trip to France. Each flag represents the story of an honored hero understood and appreciated by its sponsor, family and friends.
The Weaverville Field of Honor® display is also a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of dedicated volunteers. It is an experience hard to describe, but never to be forgotten. There will be no charge to visit the Field of Honor® display, and all are invited to walk with us through the ordered rows of flags. This is an event not to be missed.
