This stirring display will bring the community together in a patriotic tribute to honor our Veterans. Each flag represents an individual and tells a story. Flags may be sponsored to honor individuals serving in our military, veterans who have served and first responders who serve our communities. Event Details

Field of Flags


Five hundred U.S. flags will stand in solemn formation in Nixon during the week of Veterans Day this coming November. This stirring display will bring the community together in a patriotic tribute to honor our Veterans. Each flag represents an individual and tells a story. Flags may be sponsored to honor individuals serving in our military, veterans who have served and first responders who serve our communities. The event is the perfect opportunity for all of us to remember and honor our many heroes who serve and have served to protect us all.

The Nixon Field of Honor® display is a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or making a donation.

This is an experience hard to describe, but never to be forgotten. We invite all to visit the Nixon Field of Honor® display and walk with us among the posted flags. The display is open to all without charge. Don’t miss it!

Schedule of Events

November 2nd – Flag Shipment Arrives / Richardson Christian Center (RCC)
November 7th – 8th – Flag Assembly / RCC
November 9th – Field Set up / Field of Honor® Location
November 10th – 10:00 am Opening Ceremony / Field of Honor® Location
November 12th – 12:00 pm (Noon) Veterans Luncheon: First United Methodist Church: Veterans only please.
November 12th – 10:00 am Veterans Day Program: Nixon-Smiley CISD Mustang Stadium
November 9th – 17th – 9:00 am and at 7:00 pm: TAPS played each morning and evening at the Field of Honor® location.
November 17th – 10:00 am / Closing Ceremony – Field of Honor® Location / Family Flag Pick Up Day

Flag display as part of Veterans Day will fund series of scholarships
A patriotic display of 500 flags in a field in Nixon is set to pay tribute to South Texas veterans and first responders for Veterans Day.  The Veterans Day Committee of Nixon partnered up with Colonial Flag Foundation to bring one of the three Field of Honors to the small South Texas Town.
