A field of 200 American flags will be the centerpiece of a community picnic on July 2 near the Jacobus Vanderveer House & Museum. During the Independence Day celebration, the public can walk through the Field of Honor, which pays tribute to men and women who have served the nation, according to a news release.

The Field of Honor® is a community project of remembrance, and an expression of humanity and patriotism.
Over 200 American flags will be available for adoption and displayed on the grounds from July 2–11. On Saturday, July 8, join us for a picnic on the grounds of the Jacobus Vanderveer House & Museum, featuring live music and food & beverage available for purchase.
The historic grounds of the 18th Century Jacobus Vanderveer House will provide the setting for Bedminster’s 3rd Annual Field of Honor® flag display. Two centuries ago thirteen red and white stripes stood for the union of thirteen British colonies that formed the United States of America and thirteen white stars in a blue field symbolized the union they created. When Major General Henry Knox made the Vanderveer House his headquarters he displayed this flag, and thirteen stars have grown into fifty while one flag flying over the headquarters has multiplied into an inspiring formation of two hundred flags honoring modern heroes. This tribute to military, veterans and personal heroes draws the community together in a celebration of freedom.
