Honor Guard receives Field of Honor funds

700 American flags honor heroes and veterans of the community in Randolph County

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Driving passing by South Asheboro Middle School, you can see 700 American flags standing in a formation honoring heroes and veterans of the community.
Asheboro and Randolph Chamber of Commerce President Linda Brown said the first Field of Honor display came about as a way to bring the community together.

This Veterans’ Day weekend, drivers on highway US 64 in Asheboro will get a view of 700 American flags adorning the South Asheboro Middle School ball field. Visitors can stop by the Asheboro/Randolph Field of Honor at 523 West Walker Avenue in Asheboro.

The baseball field at South Asheboro Middle School will be transformed into a Field of Honor with 500 U.S. flags posted in perfect rows and columns in tribute of Heroes. Join the Asheboro Rotary Club and the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce during Veterans Day weekend as they present a panorama of Stars and Stripes.

Nancie Smith-Thompson lives in Montgomery County, but was in Asheboro shopping Friday when she saw 700 flags on display in the South Asheboro Middle School field. She had to stop and find out “what was going on.” When she did, she almost cried.

For the second year, the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce and the Asheboro Rotary Club will recognize heroes, including veterans, active duty service men and women, first responders and law enforcement with the Field of Honor.
