Terrorists set out to change the United States and the world when they crashed three airliners on September 11th of 2001 in missions of death and destruction, and they did bring change in a way they couldn’t possibly understand. The innocent victims and first responders who died that day created our determination to oppose their heinous cause. Still, as memory fades resolve weakens, and Arlington’s Field of Honor® display of five hundred United States flags brings the catastrophe of that day into sharper remembrance for the mature while youth too young to remember may learn. Honoring the sacrifice of over three thousand victims rekindles resolve that terrorism cannot defeat us nor destroy our freedoms.
Each sponsored flag tells the story of a person who deserves to not be forgotten. Military, veterans, first responders and all who have become our heroes deserve to be honored. Flags thus dedicated for $40 may be retained by their sponsors at the display’s end as a memento of an inspirational experience.
Event hosts, the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation joins forces with the GSW Arlington Rotary, the Greater Arlington Lions Club and the Arlington Kiwanis Club in bringing this awe-inspiring panorama of red, white & blue the Mid-Cities region. This is a display that must be experienced to be fully understood.
The Field of Honor® display is a gift to Arlington’s residents made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or making a donation. There is no charge to visit the Field of Honor® display, and all are invited to walk with us through the ordered rows of flags. This is an event not to be missed.
