Field of Flags

Each year since the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th of 2001, massive displays of United States flags have flown on the Sandy City Promenade in honor of the nearly three thousand victims killed that day. Visitors have experienced a sense of healing when walking through the ordered rows of flags that have given the event a name, the Utah Healing Field® display. This original Healing Field® event inspired communities all around our nation to host Colonial Flag Foundation official flag display programs.

Now, eighteen years later, though memories fade, the need for healing continues as more than 3,000 posted flags will again honor and remember those who died on that day when terrorists commandeered airliners which crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and on a grassy field in Pennsylvania.

This has transformed the memory of a horrific event into a memorial focusing on our nation’s resolve that the nation and the world will never forget the martyrs to terrorism. That the mature may remember and the young may learn.

With all that the Utah Healing Field has come to mean to area residents, this event also provides a proven platform to raise funds in support worthwhile charities, and since the aftermath of the 9/11 has had such a huge impact on the military and first responders there is a critical need to deliver the support that they need and have earned.  With this goal in mind, the Utah Healing Field® committee selected Honor 365 as the event’s benefiting charity.

This dynamic nonprofit has four pillars for resources and support, including:

  1. Education
  2. Employment
  3. Healthcare and
  4. Housing

“We know that when resources and support are available to help veterans and first responders their success and quality of life increases.”

Please join us for the 9/11 Ceremony
this Wednesday September 11th at 7:00 pm
at the Sandy Promenade

The Sandy Prominade was created years before the first Healing Field® display of 2002. However, the grassy lawn of the two blocks immediately south of Sandy City Hall could not have been better laid out to accommodate the nations first and original Healing Field® event. Likewise, the Sandy City government (https://bit.ly/2LqCXNM) could not be more supportive of the amazing panorama of flags.
