Flag Sponsorship Benefits Permanent 9/11 Memorial
Now that the 2004 Healing Field in Northglenn has come down, the North Metro 9/11 Memorial Committee hopes to find a permanent home for the 4,288 flags that flew for 8 days during this 9/11 tribute. Flag sponsorships were underway during the ceremony, but over 2,500 flags still remain without a sponsor.
Individuals and businesses in the community can sponsor a U.S. Flag that flew in the Healing Field by visiting www.northmetrofire.org and selecting the Healing Field link at the bottom of the page or individuals can visit North Metro Fire Rescue District Headquarters at 10550 Huron Street in Northglenn or the City of Northglenn Building at 11700 Community Center Drive. Each American flag can be sponsored for $30. Sponsors then can take their flag to proudly display at their home or office location.
The sponsorship fee for the flags benefits the design and construction of a permanent 9/11 Memorial. This permanent bronze is projected to be unveiled on the 5th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks (9/11/06). The bronze will incorporate a 300 pound piece of metal from one of the World Trade Center towers that was provided by New York City Fire Department.

From September 11 through September 19, 2004 over 4,00 flags in a solemn field flew at EB Rains Park in Northglenn, Colorado to honor those who have died in the war on terrorism since the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Two areas of the field honored the victims who perished on the day of September 11, 2001. one area held Memorial Flags that represent one of the 2,583 victims' of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Similarly, in a second area, each flag represented the 415 firefighters, emergency medical service workers, police officers or Port Authority workers from the 9/11 attacks.

In the third area, the Coalition Soldier's Field, displayed a flag for each fallen U.S. and foreign soldier with a yellow ribbon labeled with their name, rank, age and home town. This field grows daily so that the other two areas of the Healing Field do not.
A breathtaking display of patriotism and unity, this community project invited all to participate and heal together from the heartache of a nation attacked. For more information on the history of the Healing Field read the Story of the Idea.
The community was invited to visit the Healing Field on display at EB Rains Park from September 11th through September 19th. The memorial flags are available for sponsorship to the public and can be picked up at the North Metro Fire/Rescue Station in Northglenn. All sponsorship funds will support a permanent 9-11 display for the Denver-metro community, located in EB Rains Park.
