Imagine a sea about three thousand red, white and blue American flags standing eight foot tall in perfect rows and columns across a field of green. The visual effect will be one of infinity. The sacrifice and memory becomes real and tangible when you see this breathtaking display.

Florissant
will be the host city for a Healing Field in honor of the victims of
September 11th. Each of the 2,998 flags represents a life lost on that
tragic day. The Healing Field, will be at the James J. Eagan Civic Center and along Parker Road.

The
event will begin at 10 a.m. and is expected to conclude between 3 and 4
p.m. The tribute is sponsored by Florissant, the Electrical Connection
and the Florissant Ambassadors.
"I
think this event brings about awareness and doesn't allow the
Florissant community to forget about what took place three years ago,"
said Don Zykan, president of the Florissant Ambassadors. "It's going to
be a very solemn and moving experience, not a carnival atmosphere."
The
3-by-5-foot poly/cotton flags will be mounted on eight-foot PVC poles.
The flags will be sold for $30 each and may be bought at several sites
in Florissant, including City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce.
Proceeds will benefit several area charities such as the Backstoppers,
the DARE program and Scout troops.
Sponsor a Flag:
Individuals and businesses can support this awesome community event by
sponsoring one or more flags. When the event is over sponsors will
take their flags and fly them proudly at their homes and businesses.
Due to the many Healing Fields TM across the country,
literally tens of thousands of flags will be flying in our communities
as a show of strength, support of our military, and love for our
country. Fly your American Flag with honor and pride.

It takes hundreds of volunteers to get this community event assembled
and displayed. To volunteer and be a part of history and community or
