Child Abuse Prevention Statistics
The National Exchange club has been working to prevent the tragedy of child abuse in America for 25 Years. Now the Healing Field Foundation and the National Exchange club have partnered to introduce a new program to create further public awareness about child abuse in America.
Here are a few child abuse facts not commonly known.
In America:
- more than 3 children die each day as a result of child abuse in the home
- more children (age four and younger) die from child abuse and neglect than any other single leading cause of death for infants and young children
- child abuse is reported, on average, every 10 seconds
- children under the age of one account for 41% of child fatalities due to neglect
- 85% of child abuse fatalities are younger than 6 years of age
- nine in 10 Americans polled regard child abuse as a serious problem, yet only one in three Americans have reported abuse when confronted with an actual situation
- child abuse is 100% preventable
On April 19, 2006 The Downey Healing Field will display:
1,400 American flags representing the number of known child abuse deaths in the United States in 2005 and
20 flags will be flown representing the children who have died in the last five years in the City of Downey and surrounding communities.
This is terrorism in our own homes, of the most vulnerable of victims. It is Americans, killing Americans. This will be a beautiful tribute to an ugly problem and a unique opportunity to raise public awareness regarding the tragedy of child abuse, and the revenue will allow the Family Support Center to expand their services.
