September 2011 –

Spring Hill Cemetery will be the host to a 2011 Healing Field® 9/11 flag memorial where you will behold a beautiful display of three thousand U.S. flags.
These 3′X5′ flags will stand 8′ tall in perfect rows. This living display of heroism will fly as a temporary patriotic tribute to the strength and unity of Americans, and will commemorate the 10 year anniversary of all those who died September 11, 2001.

Please join us and walk this awe inspiring display of flags. This is the perfect opportunity for all of us to unite as a community to remember and honor those who died in this tragic event.

Event Schedule:
Revised Healing Field Schedule of Activities
Contact: Kevin Brady, Executive Director, Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District – 304.696.5954 or 304.751.1454
Due to the inclement weather and the forecast for continued rains as a result tropical storm Lee, West Virginia’s first Healing Field will now consist of a condensed schedule of activities.
Please note that the Healing Field at Spring Hill Cemetery will remain open to the public daily from 10 am – 8 pm. Information and flag sales will continue from the blue & white tent during those hours.
Our scheduled events will be as follows:
Friday September 9th – 6 pm – Marshall University March of Remembrance followed immediately by a candlelight memorial service. ( Students will lead the community from the MU Rec. Center at 6 pm and march to the Healing Field at Spring Hill carrying 75 U.S. flags to be posted in the Healing Field )
Saturday September 10th – 10 am – Memorial service to honor 9/11 victims, veterans and first responders to include the dedication of the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health.
Sunday September 11th – Patriot Day of Reflection and Remembrance ( individuals that have purchased flags may begin retrieving their flags from 4 – 7 pm. )
Monday September 12th – 10 am – Individuals that have purchased flags may retrieve their flags until 7 pm.
Again, our goal is to sell 3000 flags. Proceeds from the sale of flags will help build a memorial bell tower at Spring Hill Cemetery. Individual flags can be purchased for $35 each and sponsorship levels graduate to $30,000.
Thank you for your understanding and for all your help making this community event a huge success in spite of the weather.
